An aromatherapy shower head holds a replaceable scent cartridge. Warm water flows through it. A light fragrance releases into the spray. That is the whole mechanism. It sounds like a gimmick. It mostly isn't. But the category is full of vague claims, so this guide sticks to specifics: how it works, what the scent actually feels like, how long cartridges last, and who should buy one.

Here is the thing nobody prints on the box. Two shower heads can both be rated 1.8 GPM and give you two completely different showers. One feels strong. One feels like standing under a leaking tap. The number is the same because the number only measures volume. It says nothing about how that volume leaves the head. And that is where the entire water-saving category succeeds or fails.

A full-size PP cotton cartridge lasts roughly 3 to 6 months, closer to 3 in hard water. A small universal cotton plug often needs changing every 4 to 8 weeks. Judge by colour, flow and smell, not the calendar. Weak flow is not always the filter. Check before you replace.
